Parliamentary cooperation of the Hungarian presidency continues in Brussels

The series of parliamentary events linked to the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024 continues on 12 November 2024 with the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Group (JPSG) on Europol  in Brussels, co-organised with the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) of the European Parliament. The event is co-chaired by Lajos Kósa, Chair of the Committee on Defence and Law Enforcement, Imre Vejkey, Chair of the Committee on Justice of the Hungarian National Assembly and Javier Zarzalejos, Chair of the LIBE Committee.

 

The semi-annual meeting to monitor Europol’s activities is attended by delegations from the national parliaments of the European Union and the European Parliament. The interparliamentary conference reviews Europol activities between March 2024 and October 2024, the developments in data protection and fundamental rights protection, and evaluate Europol’s recent activities linked to the war in Ukraine. In addition, members of parliaments participating the meeting address two thematic topics in more depth: “Need to prevent security threats like the Solingen attack through addressing illegal migration” and “The fight against cybercrime, in particular crimes using Artificial Intelligence; possibilities of knowledge sharing involving CEPOL”. The position of the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU on these topics will be presented in keynote speeches by Bence Rétvári, Deputy Minister of Interior.
